Specials Applications Machinist

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

    Bowers Group have an opportunity for a Specials Applications Machinist to join their team in Bradford, this is an exciting role offering the successful candidate great levels of job variety, challenge, and satisfaction.

    Reporting to the Specials Applications Manager, the primary responsibility of the Specials Applications Machinist is to set up and operate a variety of CNC machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments; a brief overview of accountabilities include:

    • Operate & maintain precision turning, milling & grinding machines for small batch work; • Read engineering drawings and understand the specifications and tolerancing; • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of the operations needed to produce products; • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work; • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines and manufacture bespoke tooling where suitable tooling is not available; • Inspect parts and their dimensions using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers, DTI’s, gauge blocks.

    To be considered for this role:

    • Applicants must have a formal mechanical and manufacturing engineering qualification, OR a time served apprenticeship OR have proven experience within manufacturing. • Applicants must have previous experience setting and operating manual, mill, lathe & grinding machines, with experience machining ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel, aluminum and brass. • Applicants will have the ability to read complex technical / engineering drawings with a good understanding of tolerancing / geometrical tolerancing.
