Di-Spark Group - High Accuracy Digital Height Gauge

Horndean, Hampshire based Di-Spark Group is a well known precision engineering subcontractor that offers its domestic and...

Di-Spark’s proactive approach to the demands of its customers and its responsiveness to changes in the marketplace has seen the company evolve from its tool making background, using wire erosion techniques for the production of press tools for the printed circuit board industry; to what is now a renowned multi-disciplined manufacturer of complex machined components. The range of demanding industries served by Di-Spark, now include the aerospace, defence, medical, oil and gas, motorsport, nuclear and scientific sectors.

Di-Spark Quality Manager Ian Smith explained a major factor behind the growing demand for the company’s services and its continuing expansion.

“The excellent reputation that we enjoy for the quality of our output has always resulted in requests for the expansion of our capabilities from both existing and potential customers. This has resulted in the company expanding into additional areas of high-end manufacturing. To ensure that we maintain our hard earned reputation for quality, the Di-Spark Group adheres to best practice principles in everything that we do. Our quality management system is certified to AS9100 and ISO 9001, in addition Di-Spark is an ‘Investor in People’ accredited organisation and we are also a signatory to the supply chain improvement programme SC21.

Through continuous training and by providing our staff with the best available quality tools we encourage our entire workforce to ‘buy in’ to the philosophies of world class performance and to strive for continuous improvements. Typical of the equipment bought to assist our staff in producing high quality components is our recent purchase of a high accuracy, multi-function height gauge.

Although we use two Coordinate Measuring Machines within our Quality Department, our ever increasing workload and growing pressure on inspection time meant that there was potential for a bottle-neck at our CMMs. To avoid this situation we recently arranged to see demonstrations of high-accuracy digital height gauges from several leading metrology companies. Although we were impressed by the capability of the gauges on offer, the comprehensive nature of the features and ease of use of the V600 convinced us to buy the Trimos height gauge from Bowers Metrology.

As the easy to use Trimos V600 delivers similar levels of accuracy to our CMMs, it is now used by both inspection and production personnel for measuring relatively straight forward component features such as heights, surfaces, inside & outside diameters, slots and centre-line locations. In addition to the Trimos height gauge having a 600mm capacity that is able to accommodate all of our parts, it provides many features not normally found in gauges of this type, such as useful Min/Max functions and a large LCD screen that shows icons and visual cues relating to various measuring applications. Following a short learning period, our new Trimos height gauge has helped remove much of the burden from our CMMs and is now making an excellent contribution towards ensuring the continued quality of our output.

Available in the UK from Bowers Metrology, Trimos V Series models cover measuring capacities from 300mm – 1000mm, all internal and external diameter measurements are accomplished with the help of a unique floating carriage system and a built-in air pump that helps reduce user fatigue. The advanced Trimos gauges operate via rechargeable batteries that can run for 120 hours on a single charge.
